Just went and brought total film! (only coz Karl urban is on the front and inside it) swear I just spend my money on everything Karl related.
Guess who I bumped into at the cinema? Yep it’s judge dredd aka Karl urban ;) me being me had to have my picture taken with it! i didnt look like a mad karl urban fangirl or anything while my sister was taking the picture! ;)
For a start, the title’s different! To save confusion.
For a second point, the synopses are different! Here’s the one for the ‘95 Stallone train-wreck: In a dystopian future, Dredd, the most famous judge is convicted for a crime he did not commit while his murderous counterpart escapes.
Here’s the synopsis for Dredd 3D: In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.
See? Totally different, except for the fact the main character is Judge Dredd! So can people stop calling Dredd 3D a remake of Judge Dredd? Dredd 3D is the movie fans wanted in the first place! It’s not a remake, it’s more like a chance to put things right. It’s a new story, so I suppose you could class it as a (very) late sequel with a different cast and a different look!SO STOP CALLING DREDD 3D A REMAKE OF THE ‘95 JUDGE DREDD MOVIE!!
This issues certainly seems to have got on some peoples’ nerves. Quite right too.
Noticed that there are a lot of people who don’t know what they are talking about, I appreciate they are probably American and clearly have never read 2000AD, but my god did it make me mad. People lumping it in with the new Total Recall, because they are both sci fi remakes… WRONG SO SO SO WRONG.
Every single fan of Judge Dredd knows that this is not a remake, this is the film that we wanted, as far as I’m concerned the 90s film with Stallone never happened. It had good moments, like Mean Machine looked cool, but it was a weak plot to have chosen, Stallone was weak, and let’s not even talk about him taking the helmet off.
Essentially people need to know that this is a film based on comics, not a remake of the 90s film.
And as a massive 2000AD fan I think this movie looks damn cool, and all the interviews I’ve seen have only given me more positive thoughts. Obviously it’s not out for another month so I can’t Judge it yet. But it looks like it’s going to be worthy. If you’re interested in this film, I strongly recommend you read as many of the comics as you can if you haven’t already so that you can go into this film without you’re only point of reference being the last film. I suggest reading these storylines:
- The Judge Child
- The Apocalypse War
- The Dead Man (my favourite)
- Necropolis
- Judgement Day
- Origins
Anyway yeah that pretty much concludes my rant, other than the fact I am super happy that this film has an 18 (R) certificate and not been dumbed down to a 12A or something just to get more views.
Indeed. This is another adaptation of the Judge Dredd comic series, not a remake of the Stallone movie. In fact, “reboot” is pushing it too. Now to deal with those comparison to The Raid…
