Some work I started with the Emperor for a competition, and sadly ran out of time on. Will try to finish it at some point in the future.

The challenge for the 2000AD forum competition was to show more of Dredd’s world in the style of the Dredd film. So I went with the obvious idea - the Dark Judges. Jon did a damn fine job, as you can see from the Judge Death and Judge Fire concept work, and the finished first page. I look forward to seeing the finished 3 pages (as I was happy with the way the script came together), but real life (and paid work) beats such free work. Plus we are also working on something else, so plenty to look forward to.

Anyway you can see all the entries on the voting thread.

Don’t forget, both forum competitions have two prizes each - one everyone votes on and Tharg’s Choice.

Current art contest finishes now, voting will follow shortly and then another theme. Remember: There are prizes.

This months entry for the 2KAD forums art competition. The theme was “Reversal of Fortunes”, set by Emperor.
I don’t think this piece really quite hits it. On the other hand, I don’t really care, I’m just looking to support the competition run by Owen .

This month’s art contest has only just begun so there is plenty of time to get your entries in - remember: there are 2 prizes.

The 2000AD forum’s art contest’s winners have been chosen, we’ve seen the winner before so above is the winner of the first Tharg’s Choice prize (both art and writing competitions have two prizes, the other is decided by voting), Mek-Quake and his ABC Warrior chums by Dark Jimbo.
The next art contest has now started, the theme is: Reversals of Fortune. There will again be two prizes, so get involved.
Voting has also started for the short story contest and a new one will follow the results, which will be posted here, so the writers out there can get involved too (although they can enter the art one if they can find an artist who might be interested).

2000 AD Submission
Judge Dredd - Cycle Of Violence: Revised Page 1
I have received some invaluable feedback on my submission via the 2000 AD Online Forum. I sent a request to the artist PJ Holden for a crit via Twitter as he had been kind enough to give advice to fellow aspiring artists in the past. PJ was quick to come back with an amazingly detailed crit that really got to the heart of where I need to focus my attention and improve. PJ also took the time to do his own layout of the page in a post on his blog which has offered a good insight into his approach. I have also had some great feedback from Simon Fraser, another established 2000 AD artist. The crits and encouragement on the forum have been a great help to me and my submission will be all the better for it.
This is my 3rd go at the first page, the essential elements remain the same but almost everything been tweaked and refined to make a, hopefully, more convincing page. Although I was happy with the final panel featuring Dredd I have made a few changes to better serve the story and adhere to the script. I altered the angle so that it is from the boys perspective looking up and reduced the amount of shading to Dredd’s face to give him a younger appearance as the sequence is set in the past. I shall continue my amends to the remaining pages applying the good advice that has been such a great help.

Any excuse to add in a reminder that artists working on the sample scripts to show to Tharg would be well advised to drop into the linked thread for useful feedback.

Thrill-Suckers at the Olympics.

Another entry in the 2000AD forum competition. Entires are now closed for this month but the voting has started - remember there are 2 prizes on the line, so it is important. If you missed out then don’t worry, there will be a new one starting immediately afterwards, so sharpen your pencils.

The Emperor and I’s entry to the 2000AD forum May art competition, themed around the olympics.

Jon did an amazing job on this, I couldn’t be happier.

The competition thread is here if anyone wants to enter, there is still the weekend. Thanks to CrazyFoxMachine for running it.

Don’t forget the 2000AD forum art and short story competitions have two (2!!) prizes each - one from the round of voting and a special Tharg’s Choice, where the galaxy’s greatest despot picks his own favourite based on his strange and alien whims.

The long-running art and short story competitions on the 2000AD forum will now have prizes provided by Tharg:

Never one to ignore the efforts of loyal Squaxx while bringing new readers into the fold, Tharg will now be providing prizes for 2000ADonline’s art and short story competition. As his generosity knows no limits there will be two prizes for each - the one that wins the popular vote and “Tharg’s Choice” where the Mighty One himself* will select his favourite based on his strange and alien whims.

Contests are always stickied to the top of the general forum and May’s have already started with topical themes: the Olympics for the artists and the Dark Judges for the writers. So break out the pens and pencils, those prizes won’t deliver themselves to your front door.**

* Or a nominated droid, in the event that he is called away on urgent business elsewhere in Virgo Superculter, or beyond.

** Although Tharg is working on an automated prize delivery system.

The countdown is over, the Dark Judges have returned and their evil has taken out the 2000AD site. When and where will it end?
