Cover Story: 2013 In Pieces!
With the new year just underway, we are looking back at last year’s Thrill-packed Progs..
And it’s safe to say 2013 was the year of the comeback, with Nemesis the Warlock's early adventures being released in glorious technicolour and Grant Morrison's Zenith finally collected in two new graphic novels, for the first time in over 20 years!
However this was not all, as Thrill levels reached maximum in the magnificent Sláine retrospective, Book Of Scars, featuring guest appearances from such legendary UK comics artists as; Mick McMahon,(Sky Chariots) Glenn Fabry (Slaine: the King) and Simon Bisley (The Horned God), as well as regular series artist, Clint Langley (also standing in for the late, great Massimo Belardinelli 1938-2007).
Also the much-awaited comic strip sequel to the Dredd(2012) movie, Underbelly got underway in the Judge Dredd Megazine #340 - collected now in one mini-graphic novel, available from our online store - just £2.99!
Elsewhere, the terrific guys at IDW Comics have continued their cracking line of Judge Dredd stories - brand new and favourite tales - extending the 2000AD line further to include Rogue Trooper, Sinister Dexter and Judge Anderson-Psi Division.Perhaps most memorably captured in the crossover classics, Judge Dredd/Mars Attacks®, particularly due to Greg Staples corking cover art!
Also returning were modern favourites, vengeful gladiator, Aquila, zombie-hunter General, Defoe, Victorian villain, Stickleback, god-busters, The Ten-Seconders and undead upholder, the guardian of the g-string, Zombo!
Older beloved strips also came back (as alluded to, earlier!), including cowboys & dinosaurs epic, Flesh; the future’s deadliest hitmen, gun-sharks Sinister Dexter and, of course anti-hero and resistance fighter Bill Savage!
Above is my tribute to 2013, in montage cover form, (with a few poignant moments from last year thrown in, amateurishly!),Progs1813-61,2Jan-4Dec’13,with art from Brian Bolland, Boo Cook, Carl Critchlow, Simon Davis, D’Israeli, Glenn Fabry, Henry Flint, Leigh Gallagher, Patrick Goddard, Mark Harrison, Dave Kendall, Clint Langley, Mick McMahon, Nick Percival, Cliff Robinson, Karl Richardson, Dave Taylor, Tiernen Trevallion, Chris Weston, Ben Willsher, Steve Yeowell and many more!
This year, 2014, promises to bring many new & exciting Thrills, so keep your circuits tuned to all of our social platforms for news ‘n’ views..and don’t forget to buy your Prog - every Wednesday: still only £2.35 from our online shop and all good newsagents!
